Great Egrets love to fish and roost around Cape Ann from Spring until late fall, and I love to find and photograph them. Today I saw them for the first time this year.
It was colorless this afternoon and I noticed two white spots way in the back of a marsh in Manchester. I circled around, hoping they weren’t just big seagulls. I waited and when they came a little closer and I could see their fluffy feathers and bright green breeding eyeshadow through my lens.

Thrilled, I tiptoed back and forth trying to see them between the tree branches and focus with my heavy lens as I twisted, stretched, and squatted.

When they flew away, I knew where they were going.

I caught up with them up at the nearby pond.

Yup, the Great Egrets are back in town and I couldn’t be more excited!
